Sitges Tourism

Sitges is the municipality with the most km in the route for the second stage of the Tour de France

With a total of 19.5 km of the route, the cycling event reaches Sites on 5 July. The event means mobility restrictions from 11 am to 4:30 pm

With around 19.5 km of the route passing through its municipal territory, Sitges will be the municipality with the most kilometres for the second stage of the Tour de France on 5 July. This makes the town one of the main showcases for the event, offering a unique opportunity to project the town and its coast internationally before millions of spectators around the world. The dissemination will reach nearly 190 countries and an audience of millions of people.

The route in Sitges goes from the roundabout on the C-246a and Carrer Ramon de Dalmases to the Passeig Marítim de Les Botigues de Sitges. To ensure the event goes completely smoothly, the circuit will be closed off from 11 am to 4:30 pm, meaning disruptions to mobility, particularly traffic. Pedestrians will have to cross the circuit using the established points and following the indications of the local police and the team of volunteers.

Even though the cyclists are expected to arrive in Sitges around 3 pm, the publicity caravan will be passing through the same route two hours beforehand, which means that the route will be closed to the public from 11 am.

Disruptions to mobility

It is particularly important to be familiar with the disruptions where we are on Sunday 5 July as the Tour will cut the municipality in two. In the northern part of the town vehicles will be able to connect with the C-32 but from the southern part it will not be possible to cross the town between 11 am and 4:30 pm.

This line that marks the route of the cycling event is particularly relevant in areas such as Port d'Aiguadolç, Montgavina, Punta Gaviota, Poble de Garraf, Port Ginesta, Rat Penat and Les Botigues de Sitges that use the C-31, which will be used by the Tour for vehicles to enter and exit. On Sunday, 5 July, this road will be closed from 11 am to 4.30 pm. Despite this, emergency medical services and security services will have absolute priority.

Recommendations

Owing to the difficulties that private vehicles may encounter, the recommendation is to use the train on Sunday 5 July, using the Garraf or Sitges stops or getting around on foot.

From 11 am to 4:30 pm there will be no urban bus services, the taxi rank will be moved to Carrer Víctor Balaguer on the corner with Avinguda Sofia and interurban buses will have a provisional stop in Carrer Felip Font i Falp, between Passeig de Les Acàcies and the B-211 roundabout (Carretera de Ribes).

Fan Zone

The Tour going through Sitges is a historic event and to enable people to experience it in full, the Town Council has prepared a Fan Zone in Passeig Marítim, on the corner with Avinguda Sofia. At this point, open to everybody, there will be music and entertainment and a chance to see the stage on a giant screen.

Various organisations and groups have confirmed they will be attending, the aim being to give visibility to Sitges and its main festivities and activities while the Tour passes through.

Volunteers

The Tour de France passing through Sitges entails an important organisational and security operation that will mobilise human resources from different spheres to guarantee the event goes smoothly and to minimise disruptions.

The operation involves the participation of the local police, private security staff, municipal technical services and an extensive team of volunteers providing support for information tasks, public guidance and coordination at various points around the route.

In this respect, nearly a hundred people have registered as volunteers to help with the organisation of the event, once again demonstrating people’s willingness to get involved in major events hosted by the municipality. Their work will be fundamental in helping the day go smoothly and offering close attention for local residents and visitors alike.

To prepare this operation, all the volunteers are invited to the Miramar – Centre Cultural on 27 June at 10 am, for an information session with the instructions needed on the tasks assigned to them, safety measures, the development of the event and the coordination protocols planned for the day.
